Short Profile

Kaira (meaning 'Pathway of Food' is a special place on Rekohu (Chatham Islands), NZ. It was inhabited by my Moriori ancestors many centuries ago and my wife and I purchased the land in 2022 to help restore its cultural and ecological integrity. It is a 200 acres block of land that we farm cattle on but in a way that is respectful of the land and the animals. We practice regenerative farming on Kaiara and are in the process of planting thousands of native plants.

Impact-to-Date

Innovation

The innovation is in the way in which we manage the land in a regenerative manner. We will dedicate large areas of the property to both cultural and ecological restoration and make it a place or peace and reflection.

As noted above we are in the process of restoring large areas of the land while also making a sustainable living from it. Already locals have been commenting on how well the land and animals are looking.

Fields of Activity

Cultural Exchange, Indigenous Wisdom, Spiritual Ecology, Ecological Restoration, Cultural Heritage Celebration, Transformative Education
