Short Profile

A Moriori-led Home for Humanity in Rekohu (Chatham Islands) Aotearoa, New Zealand. Solomon’s ancestors gave 'Kaiara' its name because of the abundance of food that was once found on the forests which led down to the seashore which has an abundance (and still does today!) of fish, shellfish, lobster, seaweed and all manner of sea creatures. For the Solomons, KAIARA is a perfect Home for Humanity.

Innovation

Kaiara, in Moriori, literally means "Pathway of Food". Kai is food and Ara is path. It is located on the southwestern 'hip' of Rekohu. The Solomons purchased this property of 200 acres in 2022. It extends 1 km down to the coast and is about 500m wide. It is a beautiful piece of land and was once part of Maui Solomon’s ancestral lands known as Otonga where his great grandfather, Rangitapua Horomona, was born and is also buried. So on many levels, the foundation of KAIARA Home for Humanity was a coming home of sorts to Maui and Sue Solomon.
